New Music Technology students are to complete the task below.

Your Task

Create an original composition/tune/groove of a minimum of 1 minute to be played to the rest of the class in the first week of your course.

You may use any DAW software of your choice. If you don’t have access to a DAW of your own, then please explore the many online web-based DAWs such as:

1. Bandlab
2. Soundation
3. AudioTool

There are many online videos on how to use these web-based DAWs and you will have to create an account for each of them.

Compositions will vary, so just be creative. Some of the best ideas come from accidents! And more often than not, the simple ideas are the best ideas. And remember, I just want a good groove, but if you’ve written an opus; great!

Tips

• Space bar = ‘play’ on both software
• Copy and paste is your best friend
• Find ‘undo’ as soon as you can

This task will require a lot of time, much like the Music Technology course, so don’t leave it until the final week of summer. If you struggle with the task, then please don’t panic! You haven’t started the course yet.
